Roof walkways for industrial roofs

Our roof walkways are designed for safe passage over fragile industrial roofs such as non-walkable skylights, translucent roofs, or glass structures. They make it easier for workers to move around, improve safety, and help prevent risks when crossing these types of systems, minimizing the risk of falls.

    What People Ask Us Most
    About Roof Walkways

A roof walkway is a metal element that creates a safe path over a fragile area of a roof, such as a rooflight, or prevents wear on a roof from foot traffic, creating a safe travel zone at height.

Safety walkways are a safe, efficient solution for work at height. Their versatility, durability, and ease of installation make them an indispensable tool in many sectors. Safety walkways allow workers to move safely to reach equipment, perform maintenance, or work on installations such as photovoltaic systems, HVAC equipment, antennas and telecommunications, ventilation or exhaust units, etc.

Yes. We supply the entire peninsula and the Balearic Islands. For projects outside Spain, contact us.

The reference standard is UNE-EN 14122-2, part of the European series of standards on permanent means of access to machinery and industrial installations. It sets the requirements for working platforms and walkways, including minimum dimensions, structural strength, and non-slip surface conditions.

It depends on the use and the regulatory requirements of the project. As a reference: 300 mm is enough for occasional one-way traffic; 600 mm allows one person to pass with tools or light equipment; 900 mm is the recommended width when continuous passage is needed or when working directly on the walkway. PASSUS is available in all three formats.

PASSUS: The Roof Walkway We Manufacture in Spain

PASSUS is Ypsos Safety’s roof walkway solution. Designed and manufactured in Spain, it is intended to be installed on the most common roofs in today’s industrial building stock and to withstand what an industrial roof has to withstand: weather, real working loads, and years of use without intensive maintenance.

    Compatible surfaces:

    • Sandwich Panel
    • Trapezoidal Metal Sheet
    • Deck Roofs

    Technical features:

    • 1.5 mm thick sheet
    • Walkway length of 1,500 mm or 3,000 mm.
    • Available widths: 400, 600, 800, and 1,000 mm — four options to adapt to the passage and regulatory requirements of each project
    • Fasteners compatible with sheets from 0.5 mm thick
    • Ready for outdoor use
    • Guaranteed watertightness: the fastening system does not compromise the roof’s waterproofing

    Standards certification: UNE-EN 14122-2

What Is a Roof Walkway and When Is It Mandatory?

A roof walkway is a traffic structure installed on the surface of a roof to allow people — maintenance workers, installers, inspectors — to pass safely without risk of falling or damaging the membrane or roofing material.

Its installation is regulated by the UNE-EN 14122-2 standard (Safety of machinery. Permanent means of access to machinery and industrial installations. Part 2: Working platforms and walkways), which sets the design, sizing, and strength requirements that any permanent access walkway in industrial environments must meet.

In practice, they are necessary in any installation where periodic access to roof equipment is needed: HVAC, ventilation, zenithal lighting, solar panel maintenance, or waterproofing inspections.

Where a Galvanized Roof Walkway Is Installed

The roof walkway is a recurring element in new construction projects and in renovations of existing installations. These are the most common contexts in which PASSUS is specified:

Maintenance of HVAC and ventilation equipment
Air handling units and exhaust equipment require periodic servicing. Without a certified roof walkway, every access is a risk and a potential violation of occupational health and safety rules.

    Rooftop photovoltaic installations
Solar modules are cleaned, inspected, and eventually replaced. The roof walkway allows movement between rows of panels without stepping on the fragile roof beneath or compromising the wiring.

    Industrial buildings and logistics platforms
Large-area roofs with rooflights or skylights are especially critical environments. A roof walkway over sandwich panel or trapezoidal metal sheet is the standard solution for ensuring safe passage for maintenance crews.

    Buildings with recurring technical inspections
Antennas, lightning rods, rooftop fire detection systems: any installation that requires periodic human presence on the roof justifies installing a permanent walkway.
