Fall arrest systems and devices are essential when performing work at height<\/a> \u2013 under the Spanish OHS Law 31\/1995, any work done more than 2 meters above the ground \u2013 because they ensure that, in the event of a fall, the worker does not reach the ground, minimizing the potential injuries.<\/p>\n\n

These systems are governed by different standards, for example, EN14122 <\/a>for ladders or guardrails <\/a>or EN795 <\/a>for anchors. These standards specify the manufacturing criteria and the tests the systems must pass to prove they withstand a minimum strength to absorb the impact if the worker falls to the ground.<\/p>\n\n

All of this must be included in the documentation the installer gives us along with the installation certificate.<\/p>\n\n

Is Documentation After Installation Important?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

As mentioned, for most fall arrest systems the applicable standard specifies the tests they must pass, since these devices must meet minimum requirements in accordance with the standard.<\/p>\n\n

The installer, whether a company or a self-employed professional, provides with the installation a certificate stating that the system is fit for use and has been installed in accordance with the standard, but can also provide the system manufacturer’s documents: data sheet, test reports, declaration of conformity, etc.<\/p>\n\n

Why Is Having Them a Guarantee for the Company?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

All of this post-installation documentation is a guarantee that the installed system complies with all applicable regulations and, above all, that it is designed and manufactured to effectively protect the worker in the event of a fall.<\/p>\n\n

What Happens If You Don’t Have the Paperwork or It Isn’t in Order?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Without this documentation, if an accident occurs, it would be harder to prove that the system is legally valid, and this could have serious legal consequences for both the client company and the installation company.<\/p>\n\n

What Documents Should You Receive After an Installation?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Once the system has been installed, the installer must give you a series of documents certifying that the fall arrest system is fit for use. These documents are:<\/p>\n\n

Installation Certificate <\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

This document certifies that the safety system has been installed correctly in accordance with current regulations and technical specifications (both the standard and the manufacturer’s own manual). It is also signed by a responsible technician.<\/p>\n\n

Declaration of Conformity or Test Certificates<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

These documents guarantee that the installed system complies with its respective standard and has been designed and manufactured taking those requirements into account. This document may be signed by the manufacturer or by an accredited testing laboratory.<\/p>\n\n

Use and Maintenance Manual<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Each manufacturer specifies the conditions of use and maintenance <\/a>for its systems to ensure proper operation, effectiveness, and durability. This manual includes precise instructions on how to care for and inspect the system, as well as the procedures for replacing any of its components.<\/p>\n\n

Project Study <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

This is a project report that includes the technical information needed for the installation of the fall arrest system. It contains a detailed analysis of factors such as the clear fall distance, the number of users, the PPE to be used, etc.<\/p>\n\n
